DIVISIONS & RANKUPS
To keep seasoned, high-stat horses from dominating the fields, Railbirds splits races into divisions. They are, from lowest to highest: Maiden, Allowance, Grade III, Grade II, and Grade I.
Purses are determined by division, sitting at:
In the case of leasing, training, etc, purse splits will need to be done by the players involved, and will not be done by the group itself. |

Maiden Races: All horses start in either Maiden A or Maiden B until they have entered at least two races, earned at least 150 Reputation, and reached at positive AR. Horses with less than 200 Birth Rep (including starters) are placed in Maiden A, while horses with over 200 BR are placed in Maiden B. Unlike the other divisions, ranking up from Maiden does not grant a potential reroll. Reputation/Fame earned from Maiden races applies directly to the Allowance division rather than being impacted by Rep Cut.
Outside of Maidens, horses can move up through the divisions in one of two ways, depending on owner preference and the success of the horse.
★ Voluntary Rankups: Ranking up by choice, once the horse has entered at least SIX RACES in its current division. As soon as this requirement is met, Voluntary Rankups can be requested in the #etc channel.
★ Maxed Rankups: Most horses will be automatically ranked up if they enter a certain number of races in a division, in order to keep seasoned horses from dominating a division as well as to ensure everyone gets to progress at a decent pace! Allowance is capped at 12 races, Grade III at 16, Grade II at 20, and Grade I at 24. Horses who are performing below the division average (negative AR score), however, will remain in their current division until their AR meets at least 0. See the Stat Glossary page for info on AR.
Each time a horse ranks up (except from Maiden->Allowance, which does not have a reroll), its Potential is re-rolled for a value between 1 and (10% of Tenacity). Any unspent Potential points are forfeited; they do not stack with the rankup roll. This means that it is wisest to max Potential before ranking up, and also means that ranking up may give a poorly-performing horse slightly better chances once its new points are allotted via Schooling.
Once a horse ranks up from Grade I, it is automatically retired. Retired horses can no longer race or be trained, but can still be drawn, bred, and loved! For more information about retirement, please click here.
